Milaca Township board members are currently trying to drum up support for the paving of Airport Road just east of Milaca’s industrial park.
Gerald Herges said the project will require cooperation between homeowners, township leaders and even the State of Minnesota.
“It’s pretty important. We have about 300 cars a day and it’s a gravel road,” Herges said. “We consider that an important road because it goes to the airport.”
And that importance is one of the main factors project coordinators are hoping will earn them a state grant from the Roads of Rural Significance program.
Milaca Township board member Dean Peterson said they will apply for the grant by its early February deadline. The same program was used to fund the paving of 160th Avenue in Foreston, the street along which Faith Christian School is located.
“There’s lots of competition for it, so we don’t know if we’ll get it,” Peterson said. “[The project] is entirely dependent on the program.”
