The Mille Lacs County Republican Party has chosen Milaca High School in Milaca as the location for its 2012 precinct caucuses. Caucuses are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. All precincts in the county will meet at the same location.
A feature of the 2012 caucuses will be a presidential election straw ballot. All caucus attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate among the seven contenders in the Republican Party primary.
Andrew Mathews, Chairman of the Mille Lacs County Republican Party, expressed the importance of the caucuses.
“Voting in the election is important, no doubt about it,” he said. “But you can have a much bigger impact on your government if you get involved in party activities early.
“You can have a say in the candidates your party chooses to run under its banner and you can help shape the party platform. That’s critical for establishing the policies your candidates will work for once they get into office.”
The primary business of the caucuses is to select delegates to the Mille Lacs County Republican Convention, which will take place later in February. Caucus attendees also can offer amendments to the Republican Party platform by way of resolutions presented to the caucus.
The local Republican Party will hold an informational session for people interested in attending their caucus. The session is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, 10 a.m., at the Princeton Library.
