Republicans are on a rampage

Now that they are in the majority, Republicans are hell-bent on passing legislation they never campaigned on.

How often we hear that if I had known they were going to pass the ban on gay marriage, I wouldn’t have voted for them.

That’s not all.

They will put before the voters a constitutional amendment requiring voters to have a photo identification. Can anyone see the real reason? They know it will result in poor and young people not voting, because they won’t take the time or have the money to get such a voting card. Fewer DFL voters is good for the Republicans.

They also want to rearrange the Metropolitan Council’s handling of transportation funding, all because of some beefs about the council from Scott County commissioners. They say they aren’t getting enough transportation money the council has power over.

Recently, I read that they also want to tighten the immigration laws that would restrict local authorities from sharing information with federal authorities.

Who is surprised that a  “shoot first” gun law is passing through the committees? Already there is a law on the books that allows people to shoot someone breaking into the home.  This law, if passed, would make it legal and easier to shoot someone coming into a home.

Could that be the meter reader?

This is more government than voters bargained for.

And here we thought this was going to be a session about jobs and fixing the economy.

One Response to Republicans are on a rampage

I cannot understand why people are so upset at the prospect of having to show I D to vote. As far as I am concerned if you do not want to do that maybe you have something to hide. We are not allowed to rent a movie with out our ID. There are many many things we need ID for. If people choose not to obtain an ID that is their choice and they lose their chance to vote. Requiring ID’s to vote will help prevent illegal immigrants from voting as well as preventing other fradulent votes from taking place. I see no reason why the people of the state of MN should not be allowed to vote on this issue as well as other issues such as the ban on gay marriage. Our system is supposed to be based on ‘ majority’ rules and voting is the best way to accomplish that. We need to stop rolling over for the minority and the minority need to quit complaining when they are out voted. I cannot understand why anyone would have a problem with laws that allow people to protect themselves and their loved ones. If someone is breaking into your home you should have every right to use what ever means necessary to protect yourself. I know that I would use deadlly force to protect my family if necessary. I do not understand how you can say we got more government that we bargainded for. The way I see it, the fact that they want to send some issues to the voters means we have more control.
