Funeral services for Vivian Ellen Johnson, 80, of Estes Brook were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Milaca. Burial was in the Estes Brook Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ken, Todd, Ryan and Joel Monroe, Michael and Travis Johnson and David Costain. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew, Jonathan and Ethan Costain, Mark Oleen, Kurt Hovde, Joel Diederich and Julio Camacho.
Vivian died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 at the Foley Nursing Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1927 to Calvin and Nellie (Johnson) Smallwood in Milaca. She attended Milaca School District 912 where she graduated from high school in June of 1945. During school she worked at Brownlies and Lindholm's Variety Stores and the Sunlight Cafe. On Sept. 8, 1945 she married Rudolph W. Johnson of Estes Brook at the First Baptist Church in Milaca. Three children were born to this union, Charlotte Ann, Michael Rudolph and Charlene Kay. The couple farmed near Estes Brook where Vivian hauled water, canned meat and vegetables, made her own soap and raised her family. She made clothes for the children and had a big garden.
In 1957 Vivian started working at Fingerhut in Princeton and later in St. Cloud where she was a cashier supervisor for 10 1/2 years. Vivian's dream was to be a nurse so she attended the St. Cloud Area Voc Tech School in 1969 graduating as a LPN in June of 1970. Vivian worked at the Milaca Area Hospital for over 21 years. She also worked at the Foley Nursing Center and for five years at the Princeton Elim Home. After retiring from nursing she became a demo person for Olson's SuperValu. Vivian loved to bake, crochet, knit, sew and raise flowers. She attended Estes Brook Free Church where she was active with the W. M. S. and later attended the First Baptist Church in Milaca.
She is survived by daughters, Charlotte (Ken) Monroe of Foley and Charlene (David) Costain of Littleton, Col.; son, Michael (Glenda) Johnson of Milaca; 12 grandchildren, Breta, Todd, Gina, Maria, Joel, Ryan and Lona Monroe, Matthew, Jonathan and Ethan Costain, and Melinda and Travis Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Smallwood of Big Lake; one sister, Faye Moore of Fairmont and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph in 1997; parents; sister, LaVon Jamison; brother, Morris Smallwood and infant granddaughter.
Funeral arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
