Historical society offers rich history

The Milaca Area Historical Society is now hosting, "Milaca A to Z." The historical society is open Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also showing at the museum is "The Old Milaca Trail." Learn the story of the footpath that became Highway 169 through maps, pictures and newspaper articles.

1840s rendezvous

The Mille Lacs Lake Historical Society is hosting the a three day 1840s rendezvous encampment Friday, June 25 through Sunday, June 26.

There will be demonstrations, story telling, black powder shooting, folk arts and refreshments. The entrance fee is $2 and primitive campsites are available for a fee also.

Interested in genealogy? The Minnesota Genealogical Society is hosting speakers and breakout sessions during a day-long gathering at North Junior High School in St. Cloud Saturday, June 19.

Kids going into grades one through six can experience a week in pioneer school. Three week-long sessions are being offered at the historic District 1 school building beside the Depot in Princeton in July.

Riverboats will be traveling to St. Paul from St. Louis this July for a celebration of riverboats and steamboats. The 2004 Grand Excursion will include a steamboat flotilla and the Delta Queen (built in 1925).

The Milaca Area Historical Society is always seeking volunteers and donations of records, objects and money. The society is a non-profit organization, so donations are tax deductible.

The museum is located on the southeast side of the Milaca Library.
