Wolves girls win four events at sub-section

Milaca¹s girls notched fourth place while the Wolves¹ boys placed fifth at the Section 5A Sub-Section 18 Track and Field Championships Wednesday, May 21, at Becker.

Milaca won four events in the girls competition.

The top two teams in the relay events and top four placers in the individual events gained berths to the Section 5A Track and Field Meet which was scheduled Wednesday at St. John¹s University.

St. Cloud Cathedral won the girls division with 224.5 points while Becker was second at 177 and Pierz was third with 94 points. Milaca totaled 81.5 points, Royalton was fifth with 44, Foley was sixth with 42 and Rockford was seventh with 35 points.

Milaca¹s top placers in the girls division included:

€Senior Jessi Struffert, who won the 400-meter dash in 59:79. Teammate junior Amberly Hirsch placed second in 1:02.49.

€Junior Janelle Packard, who won the 200 dash in 27.59.

€Senior Chrissy Dee, who won the high jump with a jump of 5-feet.

€The 4x400 relay team of Packard, Hirsch, Dee and Struffert which won with a time of 4:09.37. Cathedral was second in 4:13.93.

Milaca¹s other section qualifiers included:

€The 4x200 relay team of Hirsch, Packard, Struffert and sophomore Amanda Prasnicki, which placed second in 1:51.95. Cathedral placed first in 1:49.63.

€Eighth grader Kelly Nelson, who placed third in the pole vault with a vault of 8-feet, 10-inches.

The Wolves notched their other points from:

€Junior Amber Manke, who was seventh in the 100 dash in 14.14.

€Sophomore Sara Hanenburg, who was sixth in the 800 run in 2:38.03.

€The 4x100 relay unit of Prasnicki, senior Casey Carlson, Manke and ninth grader Ashley Brown, which placed third in 53.98.

€The 4x800 relay team of Hanenburg, ninth grader Alyssa Wildman, sophomore Amanda Roehl and junior Jenna Zakrajsek, which was fifth in 10:58.02.

€Sophomore Hannah Coffee, who placed fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 8-4.

Cathedral also won the boys title, piling up 146 points. Pierz was second at 130.5, Foley was third with 107.5, Becker was fourth with 88, Milaca was fifth with 83, Rockford was sixth at

76 and Royalton placed seventh with 50 points.

Milaca¹s top placers and section qualifiers included:

€Senior Tony Swenson, who placed second in the 110 hurdles in 16.42 and second in the 300 hurdles in 43.02. Cathedral¹s Mike Leither won the 110 hurdles in 16.06 and the 300 hurdles in 41.73.

€The 4x200 relay team of sophomores Axel Totzke, Andy Kotsmith and Jon Moorlag and junior Mitch Vedders, which placed second in 1:35.05. Pierz was first in 1:34.79.

€Vedders, who placed fourth in the 200 dash in 24.20. Alex Knodell of Rockford was first in 23.50.

€Junior Clay Hoeck, who was third in the pole vault, and eighth grader Caleb Coffee, who placed fourth. Hoeck had a vault of 11-2 while Coffee went 10-2.. Foley¹s Jason Beutz was first at 14-0.

€Moorlag, who was fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5-6. Danny Kimman of Pierz was first at 6-0.

€Sophomore Adam Ruis, who was third in the triple jump with a jump of 39-5.5. Jordan Cox of Becker won the triple jump at 42-0.5.

Milaca also picked up points from:

€Junior Paul Bauerly, who was fifth in the pole vault at 10-2.

€Kotsmith, who was sixth in the triple jump at 38-7.5 and eighth in the 100 dash in 12.2. Todd Novak of Foley won the 100 in 11.52.

€Moorlag, who was fifth in the 200 in 24.72.

€Totzke, who was seventh in the 400 in 55.87. Matt Eickhoff of Cathedral won the 400 in 52.08.

€Ninth grader Luke Thomsen, who was seventh in the 800 in 2:13.45. Nick Salay of Cathedral was first in 2:01.29.

€Sophomore Clinton Swenson, who was seventh in the 300 hurdles in 52.31.

€The 4x400 relay team of Hoeck, Tony Swenson, Vedders and sophomore Adam Rodin, which was fourth in 3:49.75. Cathedral was first in 3:34.10.

€The 4x800 relay unit of Thomsen and ninth graders Torin Erickson, Lewis Johnson and Chris Carlson, which placed fourth in 9:32.71. Cathedral was first in 8:49.31.

€The 4x100 relay of Kotsmith, Ruis, senior Derek Beutz and sophomore Chuck LaMee, which was fifth in 46.83. Foley was first in 45.58.
