Leander Heinen

Funeral services for Leander M. Heinen, 86, of Milaca and formerly of St. Joseph, Minn., were held Tuesday, May 27 at St. Josephıs Catholic Church in St. Joseph. The Revs. Gregory Miller, OSB, Richard Walz and Charles Kunkel, OSC, will officiate. Burial was in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in St. Joseph with military rites provided by the St. Cloud Veterans of Foreign Wars Granite Post 428.

Leander died Monday, May 19 at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud.

He was born Feb. 24, 1917 in St. Joseph to Nickolas and Agatha (Henninger) Heinen. Leander was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving the European Theater. He married Anna Walz Nov. 23, 1948 at St. Josephıs Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Leander and Anna farmed in Foreston throughout their lives. He was a member of St. Maryıs Parish in Milaca and the Milaca American Legion Post 178.

Leander is survived by his wife, Anna of Milaca; children, Judy (Bill) Payne of Apple Valley, Lee ³Mike² (Shari) of Hutchinson, Sharon (Les) Carlson of Milaca, Joe (Linda) of St. Joseph, Barb (Dan) Ethen of Ironton, Mary (Jim) Pluimer of Milaca, Debbie (Peter) Weinhold of Circle Pines, Sandi (Ralph) Frerich of Pine City, Jon of Gilman, and Marcy (Steve) Hoskins of Bock; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Elmer, Wilfred, Marcella Hengel, Harold, Geneva, and an infant brother; and grandson, Christopher Weinhold.
