Aim high, 2003 graduates
By Dr. BARBRA ZAKRAJSEK
Milaca Superintendent

The Milaca Public School Staff, Administration and School Board wish each and every graduate of the Class of 2003 our best!

The world is a very different place this spring of 2003 compared to that time back in the mid-1980's when these young men and women were born.

We see the world situation as being volatile. We see our state exercising extreme measures to control spending. We see crime and violence happening not far from home. Yet, amidst all these sobering facts, these young people are smiling, are accepting the challenges of entering adulthood and they are anxious to take their place in the world.

The Milaca Schools, the Milaca area communities and our Milaca area families have tried very hard to be caring and nurturing places for these young people to call "home". We have given them our wisdom, our personal attention and even our tough advice when it was needed. Now it is time for them to step out there and begin their own lives by making their own decisions.

While it is a "goodbye" to that favorite teacher or coach, it is a "welcome" to a new beginning.

To the graduates, we say, aim high! Be persistent. Take time to enjoy your friendships and family. Set a goal and work toward it, no matter how long it may take. Take time to help those around you. Be kind to children and to the elderly. Never compromise good character and citizenship. Give back to your community and nation.....and strive to be happy.

May the Milaca Graduating Class of 2003 stand proudly next to all the many graduating classes that have gone before!

Dear Class of 2003,
Principal Jeff Drake

I came across this quote from Louisa May Alcott which seemed appropriate for the occasion,"Life is my college. May I graduate well, and earn some honors." There is a lot of wisdom contained in that short quote. If you thought that your education was over - well, I think that you are going to be surprised!

You will continue to learn about yourself as you go through life. Circumstances will cause you to examine your beliefs and values. There will be great joys as well as sorrows along the way. You will have accomplishments that will make you very proud, but with them will also come some mistakes. All of it is life and all of it is an education.

What will you make of your life and your education? Will you do the right thing or the wrong thing when nobody but you would ever know the difference? When confronted with obstacles, will you give up or will you roll up your sleeves and try again with renewed determination? In the end, your successes and accomplishments will be most dependent on your attitude, your work ethic, your dedication, and your integrity.

I would like to thank you for the contributions you have made to this school. We hope that you look back on your experiences at Milaca High School and as a member of this community with fondness. We are very proud of you and wish each of you the very best life has to offer. Follow your dreams and cherish the moments by remembering that life is the journey, not the destination. Congratulations!
