Wolves win four events at RRC meet

Milacašs girls placed third while Milacašs boys finished ninth at the Rum River Conference Track and Field Championships Thursday, May 15, at Princeton.

The Wolves placed first in four events at the meet.

Big Lake, behind standout Nikki Sims, rolled to the girls title with 173 points. North Branch placed second at 86.5, nosing out Milaca which scored 84 points. Chisago Lakes was fourth with 80 points.

Sims paced Big Lake by winning the 100-meter dash, the 200 dash, the long jump and the triple jump.

Princeton surprised observers by claiming the boys crown. The Tigers totaled 122 points, tipping second-place Chisago Lakes which finished at 114. Chisago Lakes entered the meet as the team favorite.

St. Michael-Albertville was third with 90 points and Milaca placed ninth with 49 points.

Milaca first-place finishers included:

€Sophomore Amanda Prasnicki who won the girls pole vault with a record-setting vault of 9-feet, 3-inches. She broke the former mark of 9-0 which was shared by 2002 Milaca graduate Kristine Norberg.

Milacašs Hannah Coffee placed third at 8-6 while Vanessa Halstead was fifth at 8-0.

€Senior Jessi Struffert who repeated as champion in the 400 dash with a time of 58:70. Milaca junior Amberly Hirsch was third in 1:01.99.

€Milacašs girls 4x400 relay team of Struffert, Hirsch, senior Chrissy Dee and junior Janelle Packard which won with a time of 4:10.47.

€Milacašs boys 4x200 relay team of junior Mitch Vedders and sophomores Alex Totzke, Jon Moorlag and Andy Kotsmith which placed first in 1:33.44.

Milaca was scheduled to resume action at the sub-section meet Wednesday at Becker. The top placers from that meet advance to the section meet Wednesday, May 28, at St. Johnšs University.
