Wolves claim fourth-straight RRC crown

Milaca¹s girls golf team clinched its fourth-straight Rum River Conference championship last week.

The RRC standings are compiled by the results of a series of meets during the season. Last week, Milaca placed first in a triangular Tuesday, May 13, at the Milaca Golf Club, then placed first and second in a pair of nine-hole meets involving all nine RRC schools at the Milaca Golf Club Thursday, May 15.

³Even though there may be one more make-up meet, we earned enough points last week to clinch the conference title,² said Milaca Coach Andrea Rusk. ³Consistency was again a big factor for us and winning another conference title is great. The team worked hard.²

On May 13 at Milaca, the Wolves placed first with a team score of 188. Chisago Lakes placed second at 211 and St. Michael-Albertville was third at 228.

Milaca sophomore Erin Rice was medalist with a 44 while senior Kelly Doty and sophomore Lacey Hoeck tied for third place with 47s. Junior Katie Mickelson shot a 50.

On Thursday, May 15, Milaca won the first meet with a team score of 185, its best nine-hole score of the season. North Branch won a tie-breaker with Chisago Lakes and placed second at 197.

Rice led the Wolves with a 44 while Hoeck shot a 46, Mickelson had a 47 and Doty had a 48. Senior Alicia DeBoer shot a 52 and sophomore Amy DeBoer had a 56.

Foley won the second meet with a score of 199, nipping Milaca which finished at 200. Pine City was third at 207 and North Branch was fourth at 212.

Rice led Milaca with a 46 while Hoeck had a 47, Doty shot a 53 and Mickelson had a 54. Amy DeBoer finished at 58 and Alicia DeBoer scored a 64.

On Thursday, May 8, Milaca placed second at the Milaca Invitational at the Milaca Golf Club. Foley won the meet with a score of 388 while Milaca finished with a 400 total. Chisago Lakes was third at 405.

Hoeck led Milaca with an 89 (42-47) while Rice had a 93 (49-44), Mickelson shot a 105 (50-55) and Amy DeBoer finished at 115 (58-67).

Milaca was scheduled to compete at the sub-section meet at Becker on Tuesday. The top teams and individuals in that meet advance to the Section 5 Tournament Tuesday, May 27, at Rich Springs Golf Club near Cold Spring.
