Girls third, boys fifth at Pierz meet Milaca¹s girls claimed third place while the Wolves¹ boys finished fifth at the Pierz Invitational Track and Field Meet Tuesday, April 22. The meet was held at Milaca. St. Cloud Cathedral won both the girls and boys titles. Cathedral won the girls title with 201 points. Pierz was second with 105 and Milaca was third with 84. Crosby-Ironton placed fourth at 65, Albany was fifth with 45, Royalton was sixth with 40, Foley was seventh with 34 points and Aitkin placed eighth with 27. Seniors Jessi Struffert and Chrissy Dee and eighth grader Kelly Nelson were individual winners for the Wolves. Struffert won the 400-meter dash in 59.54 seconds, with Milaca junior Amberly Hirsch placing third in 1:03.4. Dee won the high jump with a jump of 4-feet, 10-inches. Nelson, meanwhile, took top honors in the pole vault with a vault of 9-0. Milaca sophomores Hannah Coffee and Vanessa Halstead, placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault as both cleared 8-0. The Wolves placed first in the 800-meter relay and the 4x400 relay. The 800 relay team of Struffert, Hirsch, sophomore Amanda Prasnicki and junior Janelle Packard won with a time of 1:52.0. Cathedral placed second at 1:54.0. Milaca 4x400 team of Hirsch, Packard, Dee and Struffert won in 4:16.1, nipping Cathedral which was second in 4:16.2. Milaca placed fourth in the 3200-meter relay as sophomores Amanda Roehl and Sara Hanenburg and ninth graders Alyssa Wildman and Alanna Wildman posted a time of 11:00. Packard also notched second place in the 200 dash with a time of 27.85 while Prasnicki placed fourth in the 100 dash in 13.0. Cathedral won the boys crown with 143.5 points while Albany was second at 103 and Foley was third at 101. Pierz was fourth with 56 points, Milaca placed fifth with 73.5, Crosby-Ironton was sixth with 67.5, Royalton was seventh with 30.5 and Aitkin was eighth with 27. Milaca¹s lone first place was in the 800-meter relay where sophomores Axel Totzke, Andy Kotsmith and Jon Moorlag and junior Mitch Vedders combined for a time of 1:36.0. Albany was second at 1:39. Milaca senior Tony Swenson notched second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.63 and he took third place in the 110 high hurdles in 16.66. Totzke placed third in the 400 dash in 55.14 while sophomore Adam Rodin was seventh in 57.05. Vedders placed third in the 200 dash in 24.74 while Kotsmith was seventh in the 100 dash in 12.16. Sophomore Adam Ruis finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 36-feet, 11.5-inches while junior Clay Hoeck placed fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 10-0. Junior Paul Bauerly placed fifth in the pole vault at 9-6 and eighth grader Caleb Coffee was seventh at 9-0. Kotsmith added a sixth place in the long jump at 17-1.5. Moorlag claimed fourth in the long jump at 17-3.5 and fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5-0. Senior Austin Siemers placed seventh in the 1600 run in 5:13.91. Ruis, Kotsmith, senior Derek Beutz and sophomore Chuck LaMee combined to place third in the 400 relay in 48.13 and Rodin, Vedders, Swenson and Totzke combined to place third in the 1600 relay in 3:44. Milaca hosts its own invitational Friday, May 9, at 4:15 p.m.
