Posted 5/1/03

Milaca¹s girls softball team turned the tables on an old nemesis Friday as the Wolves trimmed Big Lake 4-3 in a Rum River Conference game at Sod Park in Milaca.

³We¹ve had a good rivalry with Big Lake the past few years and it was nice to get a win,² said Milaca Coach Randy Johnson.

Big Lake topped Milaca 3-0 in the Section 6AA championship game last season.

The win over the Hornets came on the heels of a 2-1, second-place showing at the six-team Morris Invitational Saturday. The Wolves dropped their first game in the meet to Chokio-Alberta 3-1 but roared back to stop Morris 6-3 and Marshall 15-6.

Chokio-Alberta, ranked No. 4 in the Class A state ratings, won the tournament with a 3-0 record.

On Tuesday, April 22, Princeton trimmed the Wolves 14-4 in a Rum River game at Milaca.

Milaca, which is 6-3 overall and 3-1 in RRC games, hosts North Branch in a RRC game today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. The Wolves are home against Mora Monday, May 5, at 4:30 and Tuesday, May 6, against Pine City at 5 o¹clock.

Big Lake pitching ace Katie Klesk then retired senior Whitney Bekius on a pop out and senior Denae Gahm on a strikeout. ³Sara showed good control and pitched a great game,² said Johnson. ³She also made a great play on a line drive hit right at her, knocking it down and throwing the batter out.

³It¹s always fun to win a game in the seventh inning.²
