Milaca sweeps RRC
meets, wins crown
at Purple Hawk invite

It was a very busy, highly successful week for Milacašs girls golf team.
The Wolves won Rum River Conference triangular meets Tuesday, April 22, at North Branch and Thursday, April 24 at Big Lake before finishing third at the Onamia Invitational Saturday.
On Monday, Milaca captured first place at the 20-team Cambridge Purple Hawk Invitational at the Purple Hawk Golf Course.
ŗIt was a great week--the girls played very well,˛ said Milaca Coach Andrea Rusk.
Milaca continues Rum River play today (Thursday) at Foley at 4:15, then travels to Mora for a meet Tuesday, May 6, also at 4:15.
The Wolves won the Purple Hawk title with a team score of 385. Lakeville placed second at 390, Centennial was third at 408, Foley finished fourth at 410 and Anoka was fifth at 419. Rounding out the top 10 were Chisago Lakes at 425, Spring Lake Park at 431, Cambridge at 437, Duluth East at 445 and 10th-place Pine City at 463.
Milaca sophomore Erin Rice placed fourth in the individual standings with a 91 while senior Kelly Doty was sixth with a 94 and sophomore Lacey Hoeck was ninth with a 96. Junior Katie Mickelson finished at 104.
Megan Hanson of Anoka was medalist with an 87 while Jen Walters of Chisago Lakes was second at 90, winning a playoff with Hilary Gerster of Andover who also finished at 90.
The top four golfers on each team counted in the team score.
On Saturday, Caledonia won the Onamia Invitational at Izatyšs. New London-Spicer placed second while Milaca was third.
Rice led Milaca as she placed third at 87.
On April 22, Milaca won the triangular at Silver Springs Golf Course with a team score of 187. Pine City placed second at 220 and Big Lake was third at 242.
Hoeck was medalist and led Milaca with a 42 while Doty finished second with a 44, Rice was third with a score of 46 and Mickelson and senior Alicia DeBoer both finished at 55. Sophomore Amy DeBoer had a 56 total.
Milaca placed third in the junior varsity round with a score of 253. Ninth grader Megan Sahlstrom led the Wolves with a 59 while junior Laura Rahm shot a 70.
Milaca won the April 22 at North Branch with a score of 191 while North Branch was second at 229 and Mora was third at 233.
Hoeck led Milaca and won medalist honors with a career-low score of 39. Rice shot a 49, Doty finished at 51 and Mickelson had a score of 52. Amy DeBoer finished at 59 and Sahlstrom finished at 70.
Alicia DeBoer led Milacašs junior varsity with a 59 while Rahm had a score of 69.
