Milaca wins triangular

Junior Phil Sam fired a 38 and sophomore Shawn Nelson scored a 42 to lead Milaca to first place in a Rum River Conference boys golf triangular Thursday, May 8, at the Pine City Country Club.

The Wolves finished with a score of 175. Pine City placed second at 178 and Big Lake was third at 185.

Junior Darrell Nelson added a 46 for the Wolves while eighth grader Beau Moyer had a 49, senior Sheldon Miller had a 50 and junior Jeremie Wallin finished at 51.

Samšs 38 earned him medalist honors.

Milaca also won the junior varsity meet as ninth grader Travis Moyer shot a 46 and ninth grader Nick Wilken had a 48.

On Tuesday, May 6, Milaca placed third in a RRC triangular at the Milaca Golf Club.

Mora and North Branch both finished with a score of 165 but Mora won the tie-breaker to claim first place. Milaca had a 179 total.

Junior Brent Baas led the Wolves with a 40 while Nelson shot a 45, senior Tim Veurink had a 46 and Sam finished at 48. Wallin had a 48 and Beau Moyer had a 53.

Morašs Mike Yocum was medalist with a 39.

Milaca placed third in the junior varsity meet as sophomore Dustin Krotzer shot a 52 and Wilken, Travis Moyer and sophomore Mark DeHart each finished at 53.

On Monday, May 5, Milaca finished 22nd at the 24-team Purple Hawk Invitational at Cambridge.

Duluth Marshall placed first at 318 while Chisago Lakes was second at 321 and Cambridge-Isanti White was third at 329.

Milaca finished with a score of 381.

Sam led the Wolves with an 89 while Beau Moyer shot a 94, Nelson finished at 95 and Baas had a 103 total. Wallin scored a 104 and DeHart had a 116.

Milaca was scheduled to compete in an 18-hole Rum River Conference meet today (Thursday) at Pine City. The sub-section meet is Tuesday, May 20, at Pebble Creek Golf Course at Becker.
