Barrett, Fetters lead Senior right-hander Joe Barrett pitched a five-hitter and junior first baseman Derrick Fetters slugged a home run to lead Milaca past Pine City 4-3 in a Rum River Conference baseball game Thursday, May 8, at Pine City. The win boosted Milaca to a 5-8 overall record and 3-6 RRC mark. Conference-leading Mora trimmed the Wolves 11-1 in six innings Tuesday, May 6, at Milaca. Milaca is scheduled to close out regular-season play today (Thursday) at St. Michael-Albertville at 5 p.m. Milaca 4, Pine City 3 Barrett pitched the full seven innings, allowing three walks and five hits while fanning four. Just two of Pine City¹s runs were earned. Milaca took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first innings before going ahead 4-0 behind solo runs in the third and fourth innings. Pine City scored all of its runs in the sixth inning. Barrett and senior Jayme West each added a pair of singles to Milaca¹s eight-hit attack. ³Joe pitched a solid game and we supported him with some runs and a good defense,² said Milaca Coach Craig Talberg. Mora 11, Milaca 1 The Mustangs took a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning, then broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. A solo run in the sixth allowed Mora to end the game with the 10-run rule. Senior Kurt Koskela, junior Tony Thompson and West each had a single to account for Milaca¹s three hits. Junior Josh Walz drove in the Wolves¹ lone run with a sacrifice fly. Koskela was the losing pitcher, allowing eight hits and three walks over six innings.
