Raymond Nelson

Funeral services for Raymond Nelson, 80, of Milaca, were held Friday, June 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Janeva Stromberg officiating.

Burial followed at Brookside Cemetery near Milaca. Military honors were provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post 178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post 10794. Music was by Ann Johnson and Cheryl Bailey. Pallbearers included Roger Mathison, Joe Nelson, Ron Mathison, Randy Mathison, David Kiel and Butch Muller.

Arrangements were with the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.

Raymond Lawrence Nelson died June 17, 2003 at Fairview University Hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1922 to John E. and Olga (Schultz) Nelson in Milaca. He was baptized in 1923 at the Nor Church in Milaca and confirmed in 1937. He grew up and attended school near Milaca. Raymond served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1945 to 1946. He married Dorothy Kiel March 1, 1950 and they lived for a short time with his parents before moving to St. Paul where they lived for six years. The couple then moved back to Milaca where he worked for Nelsonšs Nursery until his retirement in 1988. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1995, and in 1996 he moved to the Milaca Elim Home. He enjoyed gardening, reading and watching TV.

Raymond is survived by his sister, Irene Arvidson of Belle Plaine; brother, Melvin and wife Lorraine Nelson of St. Paul; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; and brothers, Vernon and Ivan.
