St. Francis rally tips Milaca 7-6

St. Francis scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as it rallied past Milaca 7-6 in a Legion baseball North District 10 League game Thursday, July 3, at St. Francis.

³We played our hearts out--it was a tough loss,² said Milaca Coach Keith Anderson. ³Both teams played hard--it was a great game.²

In other games last week, Braham shaded Milaca 4-1 Monday, June 30, at Milaca, Cambridge tipped Milaca 6-5 Tuesday, July 1, at Milaca and Princeton topped Milaca 10-6 Wednesday, July 2, at Princeton.

The setbacks dropped Milaca to a 0-10 record.

³We just need to hang in there,² said Anderson. ³We¹re playing very well at times but we need to play a complete game.²

Milaca travels to Hinckley tonight (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m., then hosts Pine City Friday at 6:30. Milaca hosts Mora Monday at 6:30, then travels to Braham Tuesday, also at 6:30.

St. Francis 7, Milaca 6

Milaca pounded 14 hits as Ben Johnson and Chris Larsen each went 3-for-4. Derrick Fetters and Jayme West added two hits each.

Milaca broke a 4-4 tie by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

St. Francis scored the winning run with two outs.

Right-hander Tony Thompson pitched the distance for Milaca, allowing 10 hits and three walks while striking out two.

Nick Strom had a two-run home run for St. Francis in the third inning.

Princeton 10, Milaca 6

Princeton got off to a quick start with eight runs in the first inning. Milaca scored two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the seventh.

Dominic Ruis, in relief of Johnson, pitched the final five and two-thirds innings for Milaca, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out two.

Dustin Naumann and Ruis each had two hits for Milaca. Naumann slammed a bases-loaded triple, then scored on a single by Nate Roehl in Milaca¹s seventh-inning rally.

Brandon Knoll picked up the win, allowing three hits and three walks while fanning seven over six innings.

³We made a great comeback in the seventh inning but Princeton¹s eight-run start was too much to overcome,² said Anderson.

Cambridge 6, Milaca 5

Joe Barrett pitched the distance for Milaca, allowing just three hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out eight.

All six Cambridge runs were unearned as Milaca committed five errors.

Cambridge took a 6-4 lead by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning before Milaca rallied with a run in its half of the inning.

Barrett, Naumann and Ryan Reichow each had two hits to lead Milaca¹s eight-hit attack.

Braham 4, Milaca 1

Milaca scored its lone run in the second inning while Braham scored twice in each of the third and sixth innings.

Barrett had a double and he scored Milaca¹s run on a single by West. Naumann, Fetters, Reichow and Roehl also had singles.

Josh Loegering pitched the first four and two-thirds innings for Milaca, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out four. Reichow pitched the final one and one-third innings, allowing one hit and one walk.

Blake Karas pitched the distance for Braham, allowing six hits and seven walks.
