Helen Bosma
Pallbearers were Peter and Tim Bosma, Dean, Frank, Gene, Mike and Walt Light and Michael Sanford. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Arrangements were with the Peterson Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Helen died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Fairview Northland Regional Hospital in Princeton. She was born July 20, 1913 to Arthur and Lena (Miller) Light in Marathon, Iowa. At age five she moved with her parents to Danube, Minn. where they resided until 1929, when they returned to Gowrie, Iowa. Helen received her education in Marathon, Iowa and in Danube, Minn. where she graduated from Winfield School. Helen married Ed Bosma in Milaca April 26, 1931. The couple had two children, Carole and Douglas. Helen was always interested in community activities. She was a 4-H leader, belonged to the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Circle, and went on many drives for different causes. She worked at Milaca Mills and later at Fingerhut in Mora. While at Mora she was the shop union steward and had the privilege of going to National Clothing Worker Union conventions in Atlantic City, N.J. and Champaign, Ill. Helen loved to cook, sew, garden and entertain her family. She was active in the Milaca Senior Citizens Club and helped organize the Milaca Willing Bowlers. She was a bowler until the age of 82. Helen is survived by son, Doug and his wife Patricia of Pleasonton, Calif.; grandchildren, Cheri Sanford, Peter Bosma, Elizabeth (Chris) Hardage, Mary (Salam) Abdul-Wajid, Timothy (Jennifer) Bosma, Sarah Bosma, Merillee Willenbring and Melissa Kratzner; great-grandchildren, Michael Sanford and wife Karsten Byers, Caryl Willenbring, Colin Hardage, Amanda Bosma, and Hannah Bosma; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed in 1995; daughter, Carole in 1974; an infant son; two brothers, George and LeRoy; and a sister, Ruth. ©Mille Lacs County Times |
