Rice claims menıs title, Rusk
is womenıs champ at Calcutta

John Rice won the menıs championship flight, Andrea Rusk won the womenıs championship flight and Roger Olson won the menıs senior division at the 2003 Calcutta Golf Tournament Sunday at the Milaca Golf Club.

Seventy-two golfers took part in the tournament, which was held under clear skies on a near-perfect day.

Rice, the defending champion, defeated Chad Reetz in the finals of the menıs championship flight. He reached the title match by topping Matt Ahlberg in the first round and Todd Hasz in the semifinals. Reetz gained the finals by stopping Chris Ruis in the opening round and Jay Dahlstrom in the semifinals.

Ruis won consolation honors by topping Tom Hubers and Randy Siemers.

Rusk defeated Wendy Prince in the finals of the womenıs championship flight. She reached the finals by topping Wendy Hoeck in the first round and Kristie Mettling in the semifinals. Prince, the 2002 womenıs winner, topped Candace Johnson in the first round and Karen Baker in the semifinals.

Johnson won consolation honors in the womenıs championship flight by defeating Brenda Waltz and Hoeck.

Grant Ruis won the menıs first flight, topping Josh Nelson in the finals. Ruis gained the finals by stopping Joe Hasz in the first round and Marshall Bruflodt in the semifinals while Nelson stopped Mike Bitz in the first round and Seth Hasz in the semifinals.

Doug Reetz, who lost to Bruflodt in the first round, won the consolation title by topping Joe Hasz and Chad Banks.

Tony Hoeck prevailed in the menıs second flight, topping Greg Anderson in the title match. Hoeck stopped Ken Ruis in the first round and Jeff Rice in the semifinals while Anderson defeated Bill Ruis in the first round and Travis Kiel in the semifinals.

Bill Ruis captured the consolation title by topping Nick Marudas and Ken Ruis.

Ross Anderson won the menıs third flight as he topped Al Siemers in the finals. Anders defeated Aaron Larsen in the first round and Marty Nelson in the semifinals. Siemers reached the finals by topping Joel Patnode in the first round and Jeff Rusk in the semifinals.

Gary Johnson, who lost to Nelson in the first round, stopped Larsen and Ryan Westling to win consolation honors.

Adam Krenelka won honors in the menıs fourth flight, stopping Ron LeBlanc in the finals. Krenelka topped Jeff Kuperus in the first round and Kyle Sonnek in the semifinals while LaBlanc stopped Randy Kotsmith and Don Herr.

Dave Broberg, who lost to Sonnek in the opening round, won consolation honors in the fourth flight by topping Kuperus and Mitch Siemers.

Jim Burroughs won the menıs fifth flight, topping Zach Zimmer in the finals. Burroughs stopped Larry Karels in the first round and Jeff Dahlstrom in the semifinals while Zimmer defeated Mike Norberg in the opening round and Dan Mettling in the semifinals.

Neal Westling, who lost to Dahlstrom in the first round, won consolation honors in the fifth flight by topping Karels and Norberg.

Amy Banks won the womenıs first flight, defeating Lynn VanOrt in the title match. Banks topped Audrey French in the first round and Laura Broberg in the semifinals while VanOrt topped Lynn Eggert and Nancy Wilken.

French won consolation honors, topping Connie Patnode and Eggert.

Olson won the menıs senior title with a low net score of 70. Second place went to Dean Kendall, who had the low gross score of 88. Don Fox earned third place.
