Ailie Newman

Funeral services for Ailie Eleanor Newman, 82, were held Thursday, July 24, 2003 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Janeva Stromberg officiating.

Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. Music was provided by Cheryl Bailey.

Arrangements were with the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.

Ailie died July 22, 2003 at the Milaca Elim Home.

She was born March 20, 1921 to Jacob and Hanna (Airu) Korpi in Gilbert, Minn. Ailie grew up and attended school in Gilbert. During World War II, Ailie and a couple of her friends worked in Washington, DC and she later moved back to Milaca. She married James Newman Oct. 18, 1952 in Duluth. They owned and operated Newmanıs Jewelry Store from 1961 to 1979. After Jimıs death in 1981, she moved to Arizona and then to Duluth and back to Milaca, making her home at the Hi-Rise Apartments. Ailie was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and she was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed traveling.

Ailie is survived by her sisters, Anerva Friedman of Duluth and Annis and husband Ted Kellogg of St. Paul; many nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; brothers, Arvo and Jack Korpi; and sister, Ina Kutcher.
