Big second quarter Milaca used a 16-4 scoring edge in the second quarter to trim Onamia 39-15 in a girls non-conference basketball game Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Milaca. Milacaís second-quarter burst gave the Wolves a 23-10 halftime lead. Milaca then held Onamia to five points in the second half--all in the third quarter. "We did some things well and it paid off with a victory," said Milaca Coach Jamie Taylor. "We were able to use our entire roster and give everyone a chance to play and thatís always nice." The win was Milacaís second of the season, giving it a 2-14 record. The Wolves, who were scheduled to host North Branch Tuesday, travel to St. Michael-Albertville tonight (Thursday) for a Rum River Conference game at 7:30. Milaca, which is 1-9 in RRC games, hosts Mora in a RRC game Monday at 7:30 p.m. Junior center Lyz Tesch scored 11 points and had eight rebounds against Onamia. Junior forward Janelle Packard added six points and four rebounds while eighth grade guard Maggie Doty had six points and 11 rebounds. Milaca, which shot 26.8 percent (15-for-56) from the field, had a 46-15 edge in rebounds. Onamia, which dropped to a 5-11 record, shot just 16.7 percent (7-42) from the field.
