Milaca faces H-F in sub-section Milaca will open play in the Section 6AA Sub-Section 18 Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday night (Feb. 25) at Hinckley-Finlayson at 7:30. The Wolves were seeded No. 6 in the seven-team tourney while Hinckley-Finlayson was seeded No. 3. The teams did not face each other during the season. "We know theyíre a pretty good team," said Milaca Coach Jamie Taylor. "Weíll find out more about them prior to the game. "We know weíre capable of playing well so our goal is to play well through four quarters. Thatís what it will take for us to win." In other first-round games Tuesday, No. 2-seeded Foley hosts seventh-seeded Mora and No. 4-seeded Pine City hosts fifth-seeded Braham. Top-seeded Pierz drew a bye in the opening round. The semifinals are scheduled Thursday, Feb. 27 at a neutral site. The Milaca-Hinckley-Finlayson winner will face the winner of the Mora-Foley game at 6 p.m., with Pierz facing the Pine City-Braham winner at 8 oíclock. The championship game is set Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 at a site yet to be determined. Foley topped Milaca 58-38 in the title game last year. Last week, Milaca split a pair of Rum River Conference games as the Wolves topped Mora 49-46 Monday, Feb. 10, at Milaca before losing at Chisago Lakes 60-30 Thursday, Feb. 13. Milaca, which is 2-12 in Rum River play and 3-17 overall, closes regular-season play Friday night at home against Princeton at 7:30. The Tigers stopped the Wolves 51-44 Jan. 16 at Princeton. Milaca 49, Mora 46 The Wolves led 23-20 at halftime, then outscored the Mustangs 17-10 in the third quarter to take a 40-30 edge into the fourth quarter. Senior guard Katie Helmin led Milaca with 15 points while junior center Jamie Hubers had eight points and five rebounds. Junior center Lyz Tesch had 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and six points. The Wolves shot 33.3 percent from the field (19-for-57) while Mora shot 36 percent (18-50). Milaca had a 31-26 edge in rebounds. Junior forward Jackie Mathison led Mora with 14 points. Chisago Lakes 60, Milaca 30 The Wildcats, who are battling for the RRC title, took charge early as they led 22-6 after the opening quarter and 36-14 at halftime.
