Dunita Ruth Nelson, 60, of Merrifield, Minn., and longtime Milaca resident, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, 2003 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

She was born July 8, 1943 at Granite Falls, Minn., to Mr. and Mrs. Quam. She was raised and educated in Milaca. Past employment included Milaca Mills in Milaca and various garment manufacturing companies.

She was known for her painting. She enjoyed the many trips to California with her companion, Lewis and time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include special friend, Lewis England of Merrifield; two children, Thomas Thompson of Milaca and Vicki and Brian Parker of Hillman; nine grandchildren, Garrett, Amanda, Michael, Phillip, Brianna, Christine, Brandon, Dylan and Donna; brother, David Messer of Minneapolis; and nephew, Lance of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Brianna Dakota.

Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 8, at the William Funeral Home Chapel in Aitkin, with the Rev. Jim Gorman and Mr. Larry Salgren. Burial will be held by the family at a later time.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Crosby Hospice Care, Crosby.
