Man draws five years in meth case

Raymond Wayne Reed, 30, of Princeton pled guilty to a controlled substance crime in the second degree - possession of more than six grams of methamphetamines (meth) and was sentenced on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Reed was sentenced to 60 months in prison for felony possession of a pistol and 51 months for a controlled substance crime in the second degree by Mille Lacs County District Court Judge Stephen Ruble.

The two sentences run concurrently.

Reed was arrested on Oct. 13, 2001 by Princeton Police Officers and Mille Lacs County Sheriffís Deputies. The arrest came after officers executed a search warrant for Reedís home and vehicles at 104 Woodland Court in Princeton.

Officers apprehended Reed as he attempted to flee police through a bedroom window.

Police found several items related to meth use, including a plastic scale with meth on it, burnt residue on tin foil, lithium batteries, 180 Sudafed and Actifed pills, a butane torch and fuel, syringes, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia and two plastic bags containing meth.

Reed was charged with a controlled substance crime as he had possession of 18.9 grams of meth. He was also charged with felony possession of firearms.

Three additional adults, two juveniles, and two infant children were in the home at the time of the arrest.

Shawn Allen Lukaswicz, 22, was charged with a controlled substance crime in the fifth degree and spent 30 days in jail.

Karen Beth Kulyas, 28, who was trying to flee from police with an infant child in her arms, was charged with possession of a controlled substance crime in the fifth degree. Because of previous drug possession charges, Kulyas was sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Reed is currently in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
