Dewey Anderson

Funeral services for Dewey Edwin Anderson, 74, of Foreston, were held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Jon Olson officiating.

Burial was at the Milo Cemetery in Milo Township.

Mr. Anderson died Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2002 due to complications from heart surgery at Saint Maryís Hospital in Rochester.

He was born June 16, 1928 in Princeton. He and his twin sister Dorothy were the eldest children of Alfred and Marie (Totzke) Anderson. Dewey grew up and lived in Milo Township all of his life. He attended District 6 Pleasant View School through the eighth grade.

He began his lifeís hobby and work as a farmer with his parents on the same farm where he has lived since he was six months of age. He spent a few summers in the wheat fields in North Dakota during the planting and harvest season.

Dewey and Iris (Smithers) Anderson were married June 6, 1953 at Zion Lutheran in Milaca. On Dec. 28, 1954, Dewey began service in the U.S. Army. He began his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and then was stationed in Fort Sill, Okla., and later in Germany. He was trained as a radio mechanic and on Sept. 28, 1956 he was honorably discharged from the military.

The couple has a daughter and three sons.

Dewey was active in the community through: Mille Lacs County Fair Board for 29 years, Milo Township Board for 20+ years, 4-H member and leader, church council, American Legion-Post 178, VFW-Post 10794, District 6 School Board, and as Director of Milo Cemetery Board. He especially enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. Occasional fishing trips and travel were pleasurable.

He is survived by his wife, Iris of 49 years; daughter, Sandra and husband Bill Herzog and Carissa of Hugo; sons, Dale and wife Lisa and Justin of Burnsville, Dean and wife Cindy and Derrick, Darren of St. Cloud, and Brian and wife Lori and Nathan, Steven of Lester Prairie; sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Mora and Ardis Von Fischer and husband Fred of Holmen, Wis.; brother, Raymond and wife Ellyn of Lisle, Ill.; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; friends and relatives.

Dewey was preceded in death by his infant sister, Helen; and parents, Alfred and Marie.

Ray Edgren provided a personal remembrance at the funeral service. Music was provided by Joanie Christensen, soloist and Dale Hunter, organist.

Pallbearers were Steve Bemis, Carroll Christensen, Ray Edgren, Bob Martin, Reuben Northway and Kevin Orton. Honorary pallbearers were the six grandchildren, Lawrence Nystrom and Fred Peetz.

Arrangements were with the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Military honors were provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post 178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post 10794.
