Do Not Call list underway

The Minnesota Department of Commerce is reporting that 651,071 Minnesota residential telephone numbers were registered on the state's new telemarketing Do Not Call list in the first five days.
The Internet and telephone registration systems will continue to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As of Jan. 1, 2003, telemarketers will be required to purchase a new Do Not Call list every three months. Violators could face civil penalties of up to $1,000 per violation and repeat offenders could be barred from all telemarketing in the state. The Minnesota Department of Commerce will maintain the list and enforce the law.
The Commerce Department is reminding Minnesota residents that there is no charge to register residential phone numbers on the state's Do Not Call list and besides the phone number, no additional personal or financial information is collected.
