Four Milaca golfers gain section berths

Milaca seniors Brooks Bauer and Tom Hubers advanced to the Section 5A Boys Golf Tournament while Milaca senior Alana Reetz and ninth grader Lacey Hoeck gained berths to the Section 5A Girls Golf Tournament during sub-section play last week.

Bauer, Hubers, Reetz and Hoeck were scheduled to compete at the Section 5A Tournament Tuesday (May 28) at Rich Springs Golf Course at Cold Spring. They were bidding for berths to the Class A State Boys and Girls Tournament Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 6, at Izatys near Onamia.

Bauer tied for 10th place at the 5A North Sub-Section Boys Tournament Wednesday, May 22, at Pebble Creek Golf Course at Becker. Bauer finished with an 83 while Hubers advanced to the section meet with an 18-hole total of 84.

Senior Ryan Westling shot a 97 for the Wolves while sophomore Darrell Nelson and junior Tim Veurink both finished at 101 and sophomore Phil Sam scored a 108.

Matt Orth of St. Cloud Cathedral was medalist with a 73.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle won the North Sub-Section title with a score of 330 while Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa was second at 331. Both teams advanced to the Section 5A Team Tournament.

Milaca placed ninth with a score of 365.

Reetz and Hoeck qualified for the state meet at the 5A North Sub-Section Girls Tournament Tuesday, May 21, also at Pebble Creek.

Reetz was bidding for a fourth trip to the state meet at the section tournament.
