Gladys Gossen Funeral services for Gladys Evelyn Gossen, 87, were held on Friday, May 17, at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Milaca with the Rev. Richard John, O.S.C., officiating. Burial followed at St. Maryís Catholic Cemetery. Music was provided by Marion Katke and the St. Maryís Church Choir. Pallbearers included Roger Diethelm, Dale Miller, Ted Sienko, Willard Landreville, Don DeShaw and Tom Sauer. Honorary pallbearers included Marge Johnson, Betty Miller, Dorothy Sienko, Janice Landreville, Marge DeShaw and Phyllis Kurre. Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Gladys died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia. She was born Feb. 4, 1915 in Milaca, to Charles and Anna Anderson. She grew up in Milaca and attended school through the eighth grade. As a young girl, she also worked at Jennyís Millinery. She married Louis Gossen Nov. 26, 1935 and they made their home in Milaca. She worked for her parents at Ma & País Restaurant. Gladys was known for her homemade donuts and her hamburgers and fries. Louis and Gladys later owned and operated Louieís Grill and sold the business in 1957. She worked at Olsonís Super Valu as produce manager until her retirement. She was an active member of the St. Maryís Church Guild, Milaca Chamber of Commerce and the Jaycees. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing and bingo. She was survived by her children, Jim and wife Sylvia of Northome, Minn., and Dick and wife Louise of Deerwood, Minn.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; sons, Dale and Don; and brothers, Wally, Don and Lloyd.
