Milaca girls notch third
place at Rum River meet

Milacaís girls, led by first places from junior Jessi Struffert in the 400-meter dash, senior Kristine Norberg in the pole vault and its 800 and 1600 relay teams, placed third at the Rum River Conference Track and Field Meet Thursday, May 16, at Pine City.

Senior sprinter Craig Kotsmith set the pace for Milacaís boys as he won the 200 and 400 dashes and placed second in the 100.

North Branch won the girls crown with 160 points while Sauk Rapids was second at 154 and Milaca was third at 104. Chisago Lakes finished fourth at 98, followed by Foley with 56 points, Princeton at 47.5, Pine City at 42.25 and Mora at 40.25.

honors with 181 points while North Branch was second at 158 and Mora was third at 101. Chisago Lakes placed fourth at 74, followed by Pine City with 59, Princeton with 49, Foley with 39 and Milaca in eighth place with 36 points.

Struffert won the 400 in 1:00.13. Sophomore Amber Hirsch of Milaca was third in 1:04.50 and Milaca junior Chrissy Dee was fifth in 1:06.27.

Norberg won the pole vault with a height of 9-0 while teammate Hannah Coffee, a ninth grader, placed third at 8-0 and ninth grader Amanda Prasnicki of Milaca was fourth, also at 8-0.

Milacaís 800 relay team placed first in 1:51.71 and its 1600 relay unit won with a time of 4:15.0.

Junior Casey Carlson of Milaca placed second in the 200 dash in 27.03 and third in the 100 in 13.18. She also claimed second place in the triple jump with a jump of 33-feet, 7-inches.

Sophomore Janelle Packard of Milaca placed fourth in the 200 in 28.04 and Milaca ninth grader Sara Hanenburg was sixth in the 1600 run in 5:59.87.

Sophomore Amber Manke of Milaca was seventh in the 100 in 13:58 and Hirsch placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 14-7.

Milaca eighth grader Alanna Wildman was eighth in the 3200 run in 13:29.79.

The Wolves placed fifth in the 400 relay and sixth in the 3200 relay.

Kotsmith won the 200 in 22.64 and the 400 in 50.65.

He finished second in the 100 behind senior Dave Kelly of Sauk Rapids. Kelly had a time of 11.23 while Kotsmithís time was 11.30.

Milaca senior Anthony Peterson finished eighth in the 800 in 5:03.32 and eighth in the 3200 in 11:12.33.

Senior Ryan Richter of Milaca placed eighth in the 800 in 2:13.28.

Milaca finished seventh in the 400 and 800 relays.

Milaca will host the Section 5A District 18 Boys and Girls Track and Field Meet today (Thursday).

The meet will begin with field events at 2:30 p.m. The 3200 relay events begin at 3 oíclock, with running events starting at 3:30.

The Section 5A Boys Track and Field Meet is Wednesday, May 29, at St. Johnís University, starting at 11 a.m.
