Funeral services for Catherine "Kay" Hoekstra, 86, were held Tuesday, May 21, at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca with the Rev. John Bylsma officiating.
Burial followed at the Pease Cemetery.
She died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Milaca Elim Home.
She was born July 31, 1915, to Joe and Anna (Bootsma) Eerdmans in Hancock, Minn. She moved with her family to Pease in 1920. She attended school in Pease through the eighth grade and the Pease Christian Reformed Church, along with many others of Dutch heritage. She married Theodore Hoekstra on June 18, 1940 in Chicago, Ill. They lived in Chicago until 1974, when they moved back to Milaca. She renewed her membership at the Pease Christian Reformed Church, where she and Ted attended regularly.
Kay was very well known for her ability to mix various Dutch words and expressions with English and yet have most everyone know pretty much what she meant. Her colorful conversation was always meant (and taken) in good fun.
She is survived by her children, Thomas and wife Sheila of Grayslake, Ill., Frances and husband David Jordan, who are missionaries in Thailand, John of Waukegan, Ill., Donald and wife Carol of Lake of Four Seasons, Ind., David and wife Susan of Hudson, Fla., and Karen and husband Dean Williams of Boise, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Tillie Pluimmer of Milaca; brothers, Ted Eerdmans of Cambridge and Ben Eerdmans of Princeton; and by many other realtives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; and three sisters.
