Wolves sweep Falcons 11-1, 11-1 Milaca swept a Rum River Conference doubleheader from Foley Thursday, May 9, at Milaca, winning both games by an 11-1 score. Senior right-hander Dave Christianson pitched the first game and tossed a three-hitter while junior Nate Roehl pitched a two-hitter in the second game. Both games were called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. On Friday, North Branch edged Milaca 8-6 in a RRC game at North Branch. Milaca, 6-6 overall and 3-5 in RRC games, hosts Pine City today (Thursday) in a make-up game at 5 p.m. The Wolves conclude regular-season play Friday at the four-team Wadena Tournament. The Section 6AA, Sub-Section 18 Tournament is sched uled to begin Thursday, May 23. Milaca 11, Foley 1, 5 innings The Wolves got off to a fast start in the twinbill, scoring five runs in the first inning and four more in the second. Milaca scored its final two runs in the fourth inning. Roehl and sophomore Josh Walz each had a pair of singles to lead Milacaís nine-hit attack. Junior Joe Barrett, Christianson and seniors Luke Karels, Jason Swanson and Travis Johnson each had a single. Christianson didnít issue a walk and he struck out three. Foley scored its lone run in the top of the first inning. Milaca 11, Foley 1, 5 innings Roehl faced just 17 batters during his five-inning stint as he struck out 10 and didnít allow a walk. The Falcons scored their lone run in the fourth inning. Milaca scored solo runs in the first three innings before breaking through for four in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth. Junior catcher Dustin Naumann slammed a three-run home run and a single while Roehl was 3-for-4 to pace Milacaís 15 hit attack. Naumann drove in four runs. Senior Tom Tadych, Barrett, Walz and Johnson each had a pair of singles. The doubleheader sweep allowed the Wolves to build a four-game winning streak. Milaca scored 11 runs in each of the four games (the other wins were 11-1 over Maranatha Christian Academy and 11-3 over Ogilvie), outscoring its opponents 44-6. "Weíve been playing very well," said Milaca Coach Craig Talberg. "Our pitching, hitting and defense have been coming together." North Branch 8, Milaca 6 North Branch took an early edge with six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Trailing 8-3, the Wolves rallied with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Barrett had a pair of singles to lead Milacaís offense. He also pitched the distance, allowing nine hits and two walks. He allowed five earned runs.
